For over a century the Peregrinus has served as a mascot and "patron saint" for the University of Texas School of Law. Although based on a joke made at the turn of the twentieth century, the Peregrinus soon came to embody some of the most noble aspects of the legal profession. The Peregrinus is strange in appearance, seeming an impossible accident of nature. It is part bird, part mammal, and completely imaginary. Nonetheless, it holds a place of honor in the hearts and memories of our students and alumni. The Peregrinus, proudly represents the University of Texas School of Law and serves as a reminder that the law must bring justice.
