Services for Law Review and Journal Students

Borrowing Materials at Tarlton

Journals may request multiple borrower cards that allow checkout of materials from the Law Library to the journal. Contact the circulation desk (, 512-471-7726) for information on how to apply for borrower cards for your journal. (Please note that if a journal member uses his or her personal account to check out materials for journal use, that journal member is personally responsible for any late fees or lost items charges.)

How to Keep Track of Materials Your Journal Has Checked Out

  • Courtesy due date reminders are sent to email addresses that Tarlton has on file for your journal. One of the email addresses on file is an organizational email address for the entire journal; please contact Law Technology Services (LTS) if you have questions about accessing that email account. Tarlton may also have on file the email address for an editor. Please stop by the Library's front circulation desk if you wish to alter or update the email addresses on file.
  • Log into Tarlton's Renew Books and View Your Account feature to see what materials are checked out to your journal. For "Your name," enter the full name of your journal. Your journal should have its Law Library ID and PIN on file; if you cannot find these, contact the Library's front desk, which has IDs on file and can generate new pins.

Borrowing from UT Libraries or Interlibrary Loan

UT Libraries

The Tarlton Law Library is separate from the rest of the UT Libraries system, thus Tarlton journal library cards are not valid at other campus libraries and UT Libraries does not deliver books to Tarlton. If an item is available at another library on campus (unless the journal has paid for corporate borrowing privileges), then a journal member must check it out on his or her personal account by:

For articles or individual book chapters, journal members may request a scan through the Get a Scan service.

The journal member will be personally responsible for any late fees or lost item charges incurred on his or her personal account.

Interlibrary Loan Service

Materials not available at Tarlton or other UT-Austin libraries can be obtained through Tarlton's interlibrary loan service (ILL) by submitting an online form (via ILLiad). All journals have an organizational login for ILLiad. Please stop by the Library's front circulation desk if your journal has forgotten its ILLiad login or needs to reset its password. (Members should not use personal logins for ILL requests to forestall being individually responsible for materials requested.)
