The Stephen D. Susman Academic Center and the renovation of Tarlton Law Library mark the more recent additions and improvements to the University of Texas School of Law complex. The center is named after Stephen D. Susman (UT Law 1965), a founding partner at Susman Godfrey LLP, in recognition of a $5 million dollar gift to the school.

Occupying the fifth and sixth floors of Jones Hall, the Susman Academic Center created fifty-four faculty offices with exterior windows; thirty-eight interior offices; two large meeting rooms, each of which can be subdivided; a dramatic commons area with a two-story atrium; two faculty research areas; six additional conference rooms; and four seminar classrooms. Natural light is admitted through skylights and the central atrium.

The need for more space was identified in a study conducted in 2006. Construction began in December 2009 and the dedication of the center took place on October 29, 2010.
