I have decided to stop keeping a diary. I never began keeping but once, + have never missed but one day and that was intentional - a matter of temper. Not having strong literary aspirations I have never tried to make the diary interesting.

Still I think I may say that it contains much that is interesting, covering my struggles and vicissitudes for over 20 years - in California, Ohio, Connecticut, Europe, North Dakota, + Texas, as law clerk, student, teaching + lawyer. Whether my diary will ever be worth anything yet remains to be determined by what I accomplish in the future, + the station to which I may attain.
