Resources on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization

Resources to help researchers understand the legal landscape after Dobbs

Introduction

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States issued its opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. In a 6-3 decision, the Court held that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion and overruled Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.  Justice Alito delivered the opinion of the Court, in which Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett joined.  Justices Thomas and Kavanaugh filed concurring opinions.  Chief Justice Roberts filed an opinion concurring in the judgment.  Justices Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan filed a dissenting opinion.

This guide provides links to various articles, websites, and reports that discuss and explain the potential impact of the Dobbs decision in Texas and across the country, as well as information about Texas's Heartbeat Bill (SB 8), the subject of an earlier Supreme Court case, Whole Woman's Health v. Jackson.  Additional information may be found in Tarlton's Reproductive Rights research guide.
