Borrowing from Tarlton

Most Tarlton Law Library materials circulate to faculty for a semester. Materials on course reserve and in non-print media have more limited circulation periods as do other frequently-used resources. (Materials will be recalled if requested by another patron.)

Check out:

  • Ask your library liaison;
  • Search for the item you need from TALLONS, the online catalog, and then click "Request"; or
  • Ask your research assistant or administrative assistant: to enable them to check out materials on your behalf, please notify the Library by e-mailing circ@law.utexas.edu with the authorized research assistants’ names.

Materials will normally be delivered within 24 hours on weekdays, or on the following Monday for requests submitted on Fridays and weekends.

Renew:

  • Online;
  • By telephone at 471-7726;
  • By email; or
  • In person at the Circulation Desk.

Return:

  • Drop box in the Law School Communications Office, located left of the entrance;
  • Library’s Circulation Desk; or,
  • Return box in the basement on the Dean Keeton Street side of the Library.

Faculty Document Delivery Service Overview

The Library's document delivery service allows faculty members to have books, articles, conference papers, and reports delivered directly to mailboxes in the Communication Center or by email in PDF.

For more information about the document delivery program, please contact Joe Noel (jnoel@law.utexas.edu, 232-3801).

Borrowing from Other Libraries

Tarlton is separate from other libraries on campus. If the item you need is at one of the UT Libraries, you must have first completed a proxy form (good for one academic year) for Tarlton staff to check out materials on your behalf.

Check out:

Renew:

  • If the materials are from UT Libraries: log in to UT Libraries online;
  • If the materials are from elsewhere: ask your library liaison a few days before the due date to see if the lending library will accommodate your request.

Return:

  • Drop box; Tarlton Circulation Desk; or outdoor return box.
  • To avoid overdue fines, return materials to Tarlton at least 3 business days before the due date. (Tarlton cannot guarantee same day return.)

Materials available at other UT Austin libraries will be delivered within 3 business days.

Document delivery requests for materials not available at UT Austin will generally be delivered within 2 weeks.
