The Tarlton Law Library is open at this time with access limited to current UT Law students, faculty, and staff. Members of the UT Austin community unaffiliated with the law school may contact the Circulation Desk (email@example.com, 512-471-7726) for assistance with accessing library resources. Online reference services are also available. Please see the Tarlton Reopening FAQs and the Texas Law Fall 2020 Reopening Plan for additional details
Reference librarians at Tarlton's Reference Desk are available to help patrons locate information and to provide assistance in legal research methodology. However, they do not perform research for patrons and may not provide substantive legal advice or interpret legal materials for the benefit of patrons.
All reference librarians at Tarlton Law Library have Master’s degrees in Information Science; many have J.D. degrees as well. Several of our reference librarians specialize in certain subjects and can recommend appropriate print and electronic resources.
UT faculty or students can contact the Virtual Reference Desk for assistance via online chat or through Zoom. Accessing the Virtual Reference Desk requires logging in with a UT EID and password. From the Virtual Reference Desk, faculty and students can also make appointments for research consultations with Tarlton's reference librarians.
The Reference Desk can also be contacted by email using the online Ask a Librarian form (https://tarlton.law.utexas.edu/email) or by phone at 512-471-6220.
