About the Exhibit
This online exhibit currently features 30 of the finest dictionaries in the collection printed before 1800, organized broadly by legal tradition. The exhibit is by no means exhaustive, but rather reflects the strengths of Tarlton's holdings. If the library holds multiple editions of a particular work, the number is noted following each entry.
As additional research becomes available, the number of entries will grow. The primary link in the navigation bar leads to a subsection dedicated to that tradition. The links beneath lead to individual descriptions. Individual items also may be accessed through an index of authors or jurisdiction.
This version reflects a complete revision of each entry. The changes incoporate up to date bibliographic research on each item, as well as refinement of the biographies of authors and printers featured in the exhibit. The revision dates to Spring 2010.
A complete list of the early law dictionaries held by Tarlton Law Library may be accessed through the TALLONS online catalog.
