Bankruptcy research resources

In 2005 Congress passed Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 P.L. 109-8, which created sweeping change to U.S. Bankruptcy law.

This subject guide will help researchers to learn the current state of national and international bankruptcy law, and to learn about new legal developments.

These outlines provide an overview of the different types of bankruptcy law research resources. There are three groups of outlines. The first group focuses on bankruptcy-specific materials available online, specifically, primary authority, secondary authority, and bibliogrphies of online bankruptcy information. The focus is on free resources, but some reference to subscription or pay-as-you-go services is also included.

The second group of outlines references bankruptcy resources in print - texts, treatises, multi-volume looseleaf services, and periodicals.

The remainder of the outlines focus on online legal resources of a more general nature. The 'General legal resources' outline sets forth several legal information sites, commercial and non-, that enable access to a wide variety of primary and secondary authority. The last outline, 'Vehicles for searching the Internet' provides a brief explanation of the types of Internet search tools available.
