State Legislative Materials (Stacks 501-519)

Each state (or a commercial publisher, under the authority of the state)publishes a series of bound volumes containing all of the laws passed during each session of its legislature. While these bound volumes are known by different terms depending on the state, they are all chronologically arranged by order of adoption and bound after the end of the session. In Texas, the bound volumes of session laws are The General and Special Laws of the State of Texas.

Each state codifies its session laws into a number of titles organized by subject that contain original laws, as modified by subsequent amendments. These codifications eliminate all repealed, superseded or expired laws. In Texas, statutes that are currently in force are published in the Texas Codes Annotated or the Texas Revised Civil Statutes Annotated.
