The Library collects rare books in a number of areas. Its collection of rare legal dictionaries includes one of the first dictionaries published (in 1483), as well as a number of other dictionaries published in Europe and the US. A bibliography of the dictionary collection is available online. The rare book collection is also particularly strong in Texas law and its heritage in Anglo-American, Mexican, Spanish, and Roman law.
The Library is also the repository for the archives and manuscripts of a number of noted Texas jurists, including Justice Tom Clark, the only Texan to have served on the nation's highest court.
The archives of the University of Texas Law School are also housed in the special collections of the Library.
The Library's special collections are more completely described on its homepage.
