Computer access in the Library

Computer services for UT Law students

Computer use by the public

Members of the public may use the computers on the second floor of the Tarlton Law Library on the kiosk behind the reference desk, once they have obtained a UT Electronic Identification Number (UT EID). Follow the steps below to gain computer access:

  1. Obtain a UT EID using the EID Help link at the bottom of the TALLONS page on the catalog computers, located on the kiosk behind the reference desk.
  2. After obtaining a UT EID, get temporary authorization from Tarlton’s circulation desk staff. Users must present a valid, government-issued photo ID to request temporary access. This authorization is only for use of computers on-site and entitles the user to one login for one hour of continuous computer access per day. (For example, if you log off after 15 minutes of use, that is your one login for the day.)
  3. Re-authorize your UT EID every three days at the circulation desk, or the next time you wish to access a computer (if this time period exceeds three days).
Members of the public may connect to AT&T WiFi. Select the "attwifi" network on your device, open the web browser, and follow the instructions. For visitors without an AT&T network account, a 24-hour block may be purchased for $3.99 through the AT&T web site.

Photocopying

Copiers are available on every floor of the Library. Follow the links below to maps indicating copier locations.  Per page charges are $0.13.   All Library copiers accept copy cards only - they do not accept cash. Patrons may purchase a copy card at the card dispenser located on the main floor of the Library using cash, MasterCard or Visa. A value of up to $50.00 may be stored on a card. Copy cards purchased at other locations on the UT campus can also be used in Library copiers.  The Library does not have change.  Please note the following:

Full-service copying and credit card purchase of copy cards are available from UT Libraries Library Copier Services.  More information on Library Copier Services can be found at http://www.lib.utexas.edu/services/copyprint/index.html.

e-Scan™ book scanners are located next to the photocopiers on the 2nd floor and in a carrel near the computer lab help desk on the 3rd floor. The e-Scan™ scanning kiosk is designed for scanning any bound document into PDF, JPG, or TIFF formats. Output may be sent to your e-mail account as a file attachment or saved to a USB key. There is no charge for use of the e-scan™.

The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies and other reproductions of copyrighted material. Such copies can be made only under certain conditions. One such condition is that the photocopy or reproduction not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." Use of the reproduction may make the user liable for copyright infringement. The Library reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would violate the copyright law.
