du Luc's Placitorvm : French Law

Jean du Luc's Placitorvm summae apud Gallos Curiae is a collection of summaries, mixed with commentary, of decisions ('placita') made by the high judicial court in France (the Parisian Parliament) from the 14th century onward. The cases cover a wide range of matters, including the ban on selling masks, the rights of bakers, commercial loans, Gallican church independence, marriage forced by rape, and protections for surgeon's apprentices, etc. Of relevance to the Dictionary Collection is the "Index Latinogallicus verborum et loquendi generum selectiorum, quae in Placitorum libris habentur", which includes French translation of each of the Latin expressions indexed. The first edition appeared in 1553. This edition was printed by Charles Estienne of the famous family of French printers.
