Davis, Cushman Kellogg, 1838-1900.
The Law in Shakespeare : English Law
Davis was an attorney who served as governor of Minnesota and U.S.
Senator. He also authored A Treatise on International Law
(1901). In The Law in Shakespeare, Davis gathers the legal
terms Shakespeare used in his plays and sonnets, and compares the Bard's
use of the terms with their definitions from law dictionaries. Marke
calls it "a fascinating course in Common Law." It first appeared in
1883, was re-issued a year later by West Publishing.
