The Department of Rare Books and Special Collections supports legal education and research at The University of Texas by providing a secure home for substantial and diverse collections of rare law books and archives. The navigation at the left will guide you to more information on our collection strengths and current programming.

 

Please Note

During the period of the renovation only selected materials will be available. A core collection of rare books will remain on site, as will our most used archives. Please check with the department to confirm that the item you seek is on site.Thank you for your patience.

Available Archival Collections

Staff

There are two full-time librarians available to assist you with your research. Rare Books Librarian and Archivist Elizabeth Haluska-Rausch holds a PhD in History from Harvard University and an MS in Information Science from University of North Texas. Assistant Archivist Jennifer Cummings holds an MSIS from University of Texas at Austin, and is a Certified Archivist.

Using the collections

The collections are non-circulating and must be used in the Rare Books Reading Room. Rare Books and Archival collections are generally avaliable for use, providing that the guidelines for the Rare Book Room are followed. While an appointment is not required, it is recommended. If you are coming from outside Austin, we especially urge you to contact us in advance, so that we can help you make the most of your research visit.
