Anthony Reeseand David Sokolow were quoted in the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, Nov. 1.2003, on recording-industry lawsuits against Austinites accused of illegally sharing recorded music over the Internet. Lynn Baker spoke on "Federalism, Redistribution & Secession: Lessons from the U.S. Experience" at an international conference on "Patterns of Federalism and Regionalism: Lessons for the U.K.," held at University College London on Nov. 7, 2003. John Dzienkowski delivered a two-hour lecture on "Regulation of Corporate Lawyers after Sarbanes Oxley" at the University of Minnesota School of Law on Oct. 18, 2003. Lee Fennell's article, Death Taxes, and Cognition, 81 N.C. L. REV. 567 (2003) was reprinted in an abridged version, in two installments, in 54 MONTHLY DIGEST OF TAX ARTICLES (Oct. & Nov. 2003). William Forbath was quoted by Walter Cronkite in a syndicated column about the Texas congressional redistricting battles that ran in the Nov. 2, 2003, edition of the DENVER POST and the Nov. 3, 2003, ALBANY TIMES-UNION. Barbara Hines presented "Procedural Challenges in Removal Proceedings" at the Law School’s Immigration and Nationality Law Conference in San Antonio, Oct. 17, 2003. At the National Immigration Project Seminar on Advanced Family Immigration Issues, held Oct. 22, 2003, in Minneapolis, Hines spoke on "Priority Dates and Grandfathering" and "Ethics Issues in Immigration Law," and also moderated a panel on "Conditional Residence and K Visa Issues." Henry Hu was quoted in the LOS ANGELES TIMES, Sept. 5, 2003, on the mutual fund scandal relating to late trading and market timing uncovered by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. Hu was quoted on the $140-million pay package of New York Stock Exchange chairman Richard Grasso by the Agence France Presse, Sept. 3, 2003. Hu was quoted in BUSINESS WEEK, Sept. 1, 2003, on the usefulness of regulatory competition in the debate as to overlapping federal and state regulation of financial markets and institutions. Hu was quoted in the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, Aug. 27, 2003, on corporate governance changes at Siebel Systems in the wake of a shareholder lawsuit brought by a pension fund. Model notices for class-actions, created by the Federal Judiciary Center with consultant Terri LeClercq, will be broadcast on Nov. 25, 2003, as part of the ALA-ABA national program, "New Directions in Federal Civil Practice," and are also available at www.fjc.gov. Robert Peroni spoke on "Recent Developments in the Taxation of Corporations and Shareholders" at the 53rd Tulane Tax Institute in New Orleans, Oct. 29, 2003. David Robertson gave two presentations at the Law School’s 12th Annual Admiralty & Maritime Conference, Sept. 26, 2003, in Houston: "The Supreme Court’s Ten Stupidest Mistakes," and "The Admiralty Extension Act Solution" (a paper co-authored by Michael Sturley). At Louisiana State University’s 2nd Annual Alvin B. Rubin Maritime Personal Injury Conference, Nov. 13-14, 2003, Robertson debated "The Admiralty Extension Act Solution" with Dean Tom Galligan of the University of Tennessee Law School. Wayne Schiess spoke on "Persuasive Writing for Trial Lawyers" at the State Bar of Texas Advanced Civil Trial Course in Austin (Aug. 27, 2003), Dallas (Oct. 8, 2003), and Houston (Nov. 5, 2003). Jay Westbrook spoke on "The Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency, U.S. Chapter 15, and the Model Law Process" at a meeting of the Academics’ Group at the INSOL Las Vegas 2003 conference, Sept. 20, 2003, in Las Vegas. Westbrook spoke to the Bankruptcy Bench-Bar Conference, Western District of Texas, Oct. 2, 2003, on "Secured Parties in Possession." Westbrook was quoted in the HOUSTON CHRONICLE, Oct. 18, 2003, on Enron legal fees.
