John Dzienkowski spoke at the J. Nelson Young 22nd Annual Tax Institute at the University of North Carolina School of Law, Apr. 24, 2003, on “Circular 230 and Related Ethics Issues for Tax Practitioners.” Lee Fennell presented her paper, “Contracting Communities,” at the May Gathering of New and Nearly-New Law Faculty, held at Georgetown University Law Center on May 19, 2003. Francesco Francioni’s Environment, Human Rights & International Trade (2001) was reviewed at 8 West-Northwest 269 (2002). Dagmar Hamilton’s reviews of the William O. Douglas biography by James Simon (59 Tex. L. Rev. (1981) and of the Abe Fortas biography by Bruce Allen Murphy (68 Tex. L. Rev. (1990) were quoted by David Garrow in his review of Murphy’s new book, Wild Bill, in the Apr. 14, 2003, issue of The Nation. Robert Hamilton received the 2003 Houston Law Review Professional Excellence Award for his article, “The Crisis in Corporate Governance: 2002 Style,” which will appear in a forthcoming issue of the review. Hamilton spoke on “Fraud in the Corporate Marketplace” at a conference on “Corporate Governance and Control Fraud,” sponsored by the LBJ School of Public Affairs, Apr. 28, 2003, at UT’s Thompson Conference Center. Hamilton’s views on corporate governance in the wake of the Enron collapse were profiled in the Spring 2003 issue of Maine Law, the alumni magazine of the University of Maine School of Law. Hamilton spoke briefly at the Seventh Annual Robert W. Hamilton Book Awards dinner, Apr. 29, 2003, where Philip Bobbitt took the top prize for The Shield of Achilles (2002) as the outstanding book by a UT-Austin faculty member. Henry Hu was interviewed by Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei Financial Daily) (Tokyo) and appeared in its Mar. 25, 2003, issue on the stock market investment style of Warren Buffett and on the Berkshire Hathaway chairman’s comments at Hu’s class. Hu was quoted on companies buying research by securities analysts (and on actress Cameron Diaz) in the Wall Street Journal, Mar. 26, 2003, and Mercati Finanziari (Milan), Mar. 27, 2003. Hu was quoted on the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Management’s Discussion and Analysis disclosure requirements and Enron in the Houston Chronicle, Mar. 25, 2003. Hu was quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Mar. 6, 2003, on investment bank personnel issues in the current market conditions. Hu was quoted by the Houston Chronicle, Mar. 6, 2003, on Enron’s financial transactions in a story on a report by bankruptcy examiner Neal Batson. Kimberlee Kovach’s Mediation in a Nutshell (2003) was reviewed in Alternative Resolutions, May 2003, at 20. Scot Powe was interviewed on Austin’s KUT-FM, May 23, 2003, on proposed restrictions on abortion that are being debated in the Texas Legislature. Alan Rau visited at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in May 2003, where he gave classes on Negotiation and Mediation as part of the Master in Business Law program of the Universities of Lausanne and Geneva. Rau also conducted a workshop on Negotiation and Mediation for practicing attorneys and judges. Jordan Steiker was interviewed on National Public Radio’s “Weekend Edition,” May 24, 2003, on the increasingly close scrutiny by the U.S. Supreme Court of cases coming out of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Michael Sturley was an invited speaker at the 2003 Transportation Lawyers Association Annual Conference and Canadian Transportation Lawyers Association Mid-Year Meeting, Apr. 29-May 3, 2003, in Wailea, Maui, Hawaii, where he spoke to the Freight Claims Committee on “Recent Developments in COGSA Liability,” and was a featured speaker for the Educational Program’s Maritime Issues segment with a talk on “International Treaty on Carriage of Goods.” Rhonda Hankins, Exercise in the 21st Century: So What’s New, Experience, Spring 2003, at 22.
