On Apr. 7-9, 2002, Benjamin was a keynote speaker at the 2002 Annual Conference of the Brazilian Fulbright Alumni Association in Brasilia, Brazil, on “William Fulbright and Modernity.” Benjamin spoke on “Networking and the Enforcement of Environmental Law” at the 6th International Conference on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, Apr. 14-19, 2002, in San José, Costa Rica, co-sponsored by the United Nations, the European Union and the World Bank. At the International Seminar on Environmental Law organized by the Brazilian Supreme Court, May 6, 2002, in Brasilia, Benjamin spoke on "Sustainable Development: An Unsustainable Concept?”. Sarah Cleveland was interviewed on Channel 36 News, May 15, 2002, discussing why European opposition to Texas death penalty practices may be delaying the extradition of Robert Kleasen from the UK. Henry Hu appeared on CNBC’s “Power Lunch” on Apr. 15, 2002, during which he was interviewed by Michelle Caruso-Cabrera on a variety of questions relating to Merrill Lynch’s Internet securities analysts’ recommendations and the New York Attorney General’s enforcement actions against Merrill Lynch. Hu was also quoted on these matters in, among other places, the Los Angeles Times, Apr. 15, 2002, Newsday, Apr. 14, 2002, and the Washington Post, Apr. 14, 2002. Hu was quoted in Texas Lawyer, Apr. 15, 2002, on an Enron-related securities law issue. Owen Jones has been appointed Professor of Biology in the Department of Biology at Arizona State University. Sanford Levinson’s Legal Canons (ed. with J.M. Balkin; 2000) is reviewed at 14 Yale Journal of Law & the Humanities 221 (2002). Roy Mersky has been appointed to a three-year term on the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on the Law Library of Congress. Alan Rau was a visiting professor at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in May 2002 and gave a series of classes on “Negotiation and Mediation” in the Master of Business Law program at the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne. David Robertson is one of nine UT professors who were named to The University’s Academy for Distinguished Teachers, for eight-year terms beginning in 2002. John Robertson spoke on May 4, 2002, at the annual meeting of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists on “Pharmacogenetics and the Future of Medical Practice.” Robertson was named the recipient of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists’ first Award for Excellence in Ethics. Jordan Steiker gave a talk at the University of Oregon School of Law on Mar. 2, 2002, entitled “Texas and Southern Exceptionalism: Comparative Death Penalty Practices in the United States.” Laura Castro Trognitz & Sarah Gainer, An Instrument of Justice: Graduating Law School Student Helps Free Domestic-Violence Victim Who Served 14 Years in Prison, On Campus, May 10, 2002, at 7.
