Ballroom

In a low dark room
sounds are maneuvered
sliding around
and through us
in our dream state
underwater
with little bubbles
of air trailing up
out the sides of our mouths
as we chat the hours away
waiting for the end of the world
under the crystal ballroom

Sonia Alisa Montalbano obtained her J.D. in 1996 from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College, in Portland Oregon. She was a semi-finalist for the Portland Poetry Slam Team in 1977. Previously a partner in the firm of Cobb, Bosse & Montalbano, she left in 2002 to pursue a solo practice and focus on her writing.
