Circulation of library materials

Most Library materials circulate to Law School faculty and staff for a semester. Materials on course reserve and in non-print media have more limited circulation periods as do other frequently-used resources. Materials will be recalled if requested by another patron.

Faculty and staff may renew materials online, by telephone, by email, or in person at the Circulation Desk.

Faculty members who wish to have research assistants check out Library materials on their behalf must first notify the Library by e-mailing with the authorized research assistants’ names.

Library staff members can collect Library materials from faculty and staff offices every Wednesday afternoon. To set up this arrangement, please contact Jane O'Connell (, 471-7726).

Materials may also be returned to the Library via the drop box in the Law School Communications Office, in the return box in the basement on the Dean Keeton Street side of the Law School building, or at the Library’s circulation desk.

Materials from other libraries

The Library's document delivery service makes resources from other libraries available to faculty and staff members. Faculty and staff members using other libraries' materials should ensure that the materials are returned to the Library so that those materials can be returned to the lending institution within the applicable circulation period.

Proxy forms must be completed by faculty members who would like Library staff members to check out materials on their behalf from other UT Austin libraries.
