The 1906 Law Department Smoker
Definition of a Smoker According to the Oxford English Dictionary:
A social gathering of men, sometimes with organized entertainment (U.S.) .
In 1906 the Law Department held a Smoker at the Driskill Hotel. The event provided professors, including Samuel Peterson, with the opportunity to give speeches and socialize with students. As this picture of the Engineering Smoker from the 1908 Cactus yearbook shows, the air at these events could get very thick.
