Engaving by James Gillray. Published 1783. Image size: 7 3/4 wide by 6 3/4 inches. Accession 2897.

Sir Thomas Rumbold, regarded as the typical nabob of fabulous and ill-gotten wealth, was tried for corruption. Here he is shown spewing gold coins into a pot held by Henry Dundas, Lord Advocate of Scotland. Rumbold's prosecution in the House of Commons was managed by Dundas. The charges finally broke down and were abandoned, 1783. (British Museum, Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires)
