Respectfully known as Serjeant Maynard. Enjoyed a long career as lawyer and member of Parliament. Appointed King's Serjeant by Charles II. His appointment as a Commissioner of the Great Seal in 1689 added strength and legitimacy to William III's new departure. Reportedly left a will meant to be litigated, in order to settle certain legal points for posterity.
