The worshipper is Henry Brougham, famous advocate and law reformer. An able lawyer, Brougham successfully defended Queen Caroline in her celebrated trial in the House of Lords (1820). Ten years later he was appointed Lord Chancellor by William IV, who is shown here rising above the ocean like the sun. Brougham was not well suited to the chancellorship, however, and was dismissed in 1834.
