In addition to serving as the traditional vehicle for communication between current and former Tarlton staff, this year’s Brief serves a special purpose. In this installment, we bring together reflections from Tarltonites far and wide on both their own lives and on their experiences with the late Professor Roy M. Mersky. This library has been Roy’s place since 1965, and in many ways it will remain so. RMM left a lasting impression on those he met, and likewise has made an indelible stamp on the Tarlton Law Library, and the legal scholarship community in Austin, Texas, and abroad.
We would like to thank Gwyn Anderson for her tireless effort and guidance in resurrecting the Brief for this 2008 publication. Some of the admitted former editors of the Brief include George Peek, Scott Webel, Gwyn Anderson, Rhea Ballard-Thrower, Adrienne DeVergie, Rhonda Hankins, Pierrette Moreno, Bob Nissenbaum, and the illustrious Brief founder Rob Cogswell.
Tarltonites from past and present days have written entries for this issue, telling us what’s going on in their life and sharing reflections on their time spent at the library and with RMM.
The calendar chronicles daily life at the Tarlton Law Library. Here you will find a snapshot of our comings and goings, achievements, celebrations, and other landmark events that have occurred in the last year. Much has changed, and, well, some things are still the same as they were when reported in the 2005 Brief.
The staff publications and acknowledgments section consolidates the publishing achievements of Tarlton employees, and notes their well-deserved recognition in the "thank you" sections of others' publications.
The memorials section pays homage to many dearly departed Tarltonites we've lost in recent years.
And finally, we have posted a recent staff photo to share the current collective face of the Tarlton Law Library.
Enjoy!
