Several types of hardware are available for 24 hour check out by law students from the Library:
The Law Library has several makes and models of laptops available for student loan:
The Dell and Acer systems run Windows 7 Enterprise and Microsoft Office 2010. The MacBooks run OSX and Microsoft Office for Macintosh 2011.
Laptops are available at the Circulation Desk and may be checked out for 24 hours. All laptops are equipped with wireless cards for use on the public wireless network from anywhere in the Library and Law School.
Because the Law Library is unable to guarantee problem-free operation with any software not already installed, library-owned laptops cannot be used for Law School examinations.
Forgot your laptop's AC adapter? Adapters for the following models are available for 24-hour loan from the Circulation Desk:
Two Flip Video Camcorders™ may be borrowed for up to 24 hours. The camcorders store up to two hours of high-definition video recordings, which can be uploaded to your computer through a built-in USB connector. The devices are very easy to use and the FlipShare software will be automatically installed on your computer when the camcorder is connected. The quick start instructions will answer most operating questions.
Two tripods for the camcorders are also available for checkout.
Be sure to transfer your video files before returning the camcorder. Any files remaining on the device when returned will be deleted.
The Library loans out five Cisco Aironet wireless cards to UT law students for up to 24 hours. The cards may be inserted in personally-owned laptops equipped with PCMCIA slots to connect to the public wireless network. First time use may require installation on older laptop models of software drivers for the cards. The necessary software is available on CD-ROM from the Circulation Desk.
No advance reservations or renewals on any of the hardware are allowed. An individual may check out another laptop after a one hour interval. No checkouts are permitted over semester intersessions or during Spring Break. Overdue fines accrue on late returns and students are liable for any missing or damaged parts. Please contact the Library's circulation department (, 471-7726) for further information.
