Librarians to Help with Your Legal Research

Reference Librarians

Reference librarians typically have Master’s degrees in information science, along with J.D. degrees. Reference staff can assist you with finding and using print and electronic resources, and provide guidance on research projects and papers.

One place to get help from reference librarians is at the reference desk. During the Fall and Spring semesters, the reference desk is staffed:

  • Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Friday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.

(See the website for reference hours at other times.) Besides stopping by the reference desk, call at (512) 471-6220, chat online, or email. Feel free to get in touch if you would like to make an appointment with one of the reference librarians for more in-depth research support.

Additional Help

Tarlton also has librarians dedicated to managing collections and providing research assistance in the areas of foreign and international law, government documents, and rare books and special collections, generally available 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday.

Helpful Research Guides

The Library has authored a host of legal research guides; the following are of particular relevance to new law students.
